Could you tell us about your student life in Campion College?
Well, after my +2 from Campion Academy, I was in Campion College with sociology. Truly, I have always been more creative rather than the studious type. So even in college, it was more about sketching and drawing and having loads of fun times than staying in class. We had a group of friends that did everything together.

So, what has happened since you left Campion?
Nothing much. But this boutique. When I was in Campion, I used to work for my dad which was a business of antique, a totally different field from the one I do today.

How did you come to fashion?
I had a shop in Boudha before this. And honestly speaking, I got into fashion accidentally. I traveled a lot for my father’s business and participated in lots of exhibitions. I think this is where my interest in fashion grew but I have never had any formal training as such.

Did you get into any trouble as a student in Campion?
Well, while I was in Campion Academy, I was quite regular so I did not get into any trouble there. But in College we had. The whole group of our friends would bunk the classes. So when we did go to college, the teachers would call us “tourist students”.

You said that you got into designing accidentally, but now it is your profession. So do you like the way it’s going or you think there is a lot of work to be done from your side?
Of course there is a lot of work to be done. I don’t want to be just confined as a boutique but I want to turn this into a production house. As you know, there are so many boutiques nowadays and so is there a lot of competition and it’s really difficult. So I want to venture into expanding it and making it into a production house

What qualities within you have helped you to be successful in this field?
First of all I just want to be myself. I have never put up a face to impress my clients with the latest of trends or anything like that. All the work I have accomplished simply because I have followed what I have believed in. I am in a doctor-patient relationship with my clients. I just listen to them, and with their clear ideas I make clothes that can reflect the persons they are.

You said you wanted to open a production house, what can we expect to see in it and when?
I think the first task that I have to do in order to accomplish it is to get much knowledge about fashion. I have not been trained professionally. I am planning to get some sort of training in that. After that I will open the production house in about two years time.

So, any message to the Campionites?
What I have always felt is that Campion students stand out in the crowd. They are smarter than the other students, I feel. I think they are very creative so I advise all the Campionites to bring out that creativity and follow their dreams. With hard work, success comes slowly at first but steadily. Education is very important; but along with that I believe it’s the confidence within you that helps you succeed. And Campion gives that! I want the students to utilize that part into doing better things.
